Instructions for Cutters and Toppers!

Cutter Instructions and Safety Notes

Blizzard Brand Cutters and Toppers are extremely easy to use!  Check out YouTube for a video of our 5yo making her very own Easter Cookies!

Blizzard Cutters contain small pieces so they are not suitable for small children

They also have some sharp edges and corners, so please be careful when using.

The PLA is not dishwasher safe nor suitable for washing in hot water.

Please rinse in warm soapy water and allow to air dry fully before storing in the ziplock bag.

Instructions for use with Fondant or Gum Paste:

Roll Fondant/gum paste to required thickness.  We recommend 1-2mm for detailed pieces and 2-4mm for simple pieces

Lightly dust the cutter in Corn Flour and shake off the excess

Push the cutter firmly and evenly onto the fondant and give it a little wriggle when it hits the cutting board, this helps create nice clean edges.

Put pieces aside to dry for not more than 15 minutes (at least until a little firmer and easier to handle).

Clean up any edges or scrappy bits with a sharp knife.

Assemble your design, using a small brush dipped in water to stick pieces together.

If you are having trouble with fondant sticking inside the cutter, try either a little more corn flour, or putting a layer of cling film over the fondant before cutting.  This will make it easier to get the fondant out of the cutter.

Instructions for use with Cookie Dough

Lightly flour your work surface and roll out your dough to required thickness.  2mm is fine for shortbread and gingerbread, but closer to 4mm for cookie dough.

Lightly dust the cutter in Corn Flour and shake off the excess

Push the cutter firmly and evenly onto the dough and give it a little wriggle when it hits the cutting board, this helps create nice clean edges.

Use a fine spatula or butter knife to lift the pieces off and place on your baking tray.

If you are having trouble with fondant sticking inside the cutter, try either a little more corn flour, or putting a layer of cling film over the fondant before cutting.  This will make it easier to get the fondant out of the cutter.

Cook to required specifications.

Rice Paper Toppers

Ingredients

Potato Starch, Vegetable Oil, Water

Please keep your printed cake topper in the bag it came in until you are ready to use it.

Rice paper toppers are easy to use. Simply trim them to size and place them on top of your cake.  Your topper will be already precut to a standard 20cm cake, but you can trim to size if you need to. Toppers can be held in place using edible glue or pipe icing around the edges. These toppers should not be used on surfaces which are very wet such as fresh cream. They can be used on top of buttercream if it is only slightly moist. They work best if you stick them to slightly moist icing as it will be sticky rather than wet (which could cause the toppers to curl). These toppers may appear dull; this is because they are printed on rice paper which is naturally transparent. This is normal and once the topper is placed on the white icing it will look a lot better. You can test this by placing a white sheet of paper underneath it.

DO NOT REFRIGERATE AFTER APPLICATION. REMEMBER MOISTURE IS YOUR ENEMY.

THEY WILL SHRIVEL / DISSOLVE IF YOUR ICING IS TOO WET OR WATER IS APPLIED.

Icing Toppers

Ingredients

Water, Corn Starch, Corn syrup, Cellulose, Corn Syrup Solids, Corn Oil, Gum Arabic, Sugar, Modified Starch, Glycerine, Polysorbate, Vanilla, Artificial Colour, Citric  Acid

To remove the icing sheet hold the opposite margin edges of the backing. Pull the backing page across the sharp edge of a table. DO NOT TRY TO PEEL the icing sheet away as this can cause tearing. If it does not release immediately warm gently by rubbing your hand over the area or you can warm gently with a hair dryer. Do not apply too much heat or you will damage your print.

Prints may be trimmed prior to removal from the backing sheet with sharp scissors

Lay the print on top of the cake from the middle first to the ends. Pat gently to smooth wrinkles.

Once the topper is on the cake for approx. 15 minutes it will merge with the frosting on the cake.

Sometimes the print will appear lighter than expected. It will darken and the colours will brighten after application.

 Kosher Approved

Please keep the printed cake topper in the zip lock bag until just prior to application.

If it becomes hard and brittle place a damp paper towel in the bag with it at the back of the paper sheet. Be careful not to allow the damp paper towel to touch the print or it will damage the print. Leave it until the topper has become flexible again.
